Description

Indulge in the warm, buttery goodness of homemade soft pretzels that fill your kitchen with their irresistible aroma. This easy recipe transforms simple ingredients into delightful snacks perfect for game nights or cozy evenings at home. With a crispy outer shell and a soft, chewy interior, these pretzels can be customized with your favorite toppings for an enjoyable twist on a classic treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • 4 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
  • Coarse salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the dough: Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until combined. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Let it rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the pretzels: Punch down the dough and divide into eight pieces. Roll each into ropes (24 inches) and twist into pretzel shapes.
  5. Boil & bake: Boil water with baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds then place on a lined baking sheet. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake at 450°F for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
