Ingredients
- 4 1/2 – 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar (preferably brown sugar)
- 2 packages active-dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup water (warm)
- 1/2 cup butter (softened)
- 1 large egg (room temperature, beaten)
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar for topping
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (divided)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/3 cup butter (melted)
- 2–3 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour with sugar, yeast, and salt. In another bowl, mix warm milk and water. Add softened butter and beaten egg. Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until combined.
- Slowly add more flour until a soft dough forms. Knead it on a floured surface until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt together brown sugar, corn syrup, and room temperature butter until smooth. Pour this mixture into your greased baking dish and sprinkle chopped pecans evenly over the top.
- After rising, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush melted butter over the dough.
- In a small bowl, mix together remaining brown sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
- Roll up the dough tightly from one end to another to form a log. Slice into equal portions—about 12 rolls—and place them on top of the caramel mixture in the baking dish.
- Cover rolls with a cloth again and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
