  • 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 oz) can condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • Hot water (for water bath)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the caramel by melting 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown. Pour into a baking dish to coat the bottom evenly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 6 large eggs, evaporated milk, condensed milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Strain the mixture into another bowl.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the custard mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish.
  4. Place the baking dish inside a roasting pan filled with hot water halfway up the sides. Bake for about 50 minutes or until set.
  5. Allow to cool at room temperature before refrigerating for at least 4 hours or overnight. Serve by inverting onto a plate.
