  • 1 pound turkey bacon (chopped into small pieces)
  • 2 medium onions (diced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 34 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 (28-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (28-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans red kidney beans (drained, not rinsed)
  • 2 cups broth (beef broth, chicken broth, or vegetable broth)

Instructions

  1. In a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook chopped turkey bacon until golden. Remove and reserve grease.
  2. Brown the ground beef in the same pot using some reserved turkey bacon grease; season with salt and pepper, then set aside.
  3. Sauté diced onions in remaining grease until soft. Stir in cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, sugar, tomato paste, and diced tomatoes; bring to a simmer.
  4. Return turkey bacon and beef to the pot, add kidney beans and broth. Mix well.
  5. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, adjusting seasoning as necessary.
  6. Serve hot with desired toppings.
