  • 3 tablespoons warm whole milk
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (slightly beaten)
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, yeast, sugar, and beaten egg.
  2. Gradually add bread flour and all-purpose flour until incorporated. Then mix in salt and butter.
  3. Knead the dough on medium-low speed for about 10 minutes until soft but tacky.
  4. Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise until doubled in size (1 to 2 hours).
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Shape the dough into eight equal balls and place them on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  6. Cover and let rise again until puffy (about 1 to 1½ hours). Brush with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
  7. Bake for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown.
