Ingredients
- 500 g All-Purpose Flour (or gluten-free flour)
- 50 g Sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 10 g Salt
- 25 g Fresh Yeast (or active dry yeast)
- 3 medium Eggs (or flax eggs for vegan)
- 100 g Unsalted Butter (or vegan butter)
- 500 ml Whole Milk (or almond/soy milk)
- 1 whole Vanilla Pod (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
- 4 large Egg Yolks (or cornstarch as thickener)
- 100 g Mini Chocolate Chips
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk until bubbly.
- Mix eggs and melted butter into the yeast mixture. Gradually add to the dry ingredients to form a smooth dough.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled.
- To make the custard, heat milk with split vanilla pod until simmering. Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in another bowl. Combine with hot milk gradually, then cook over medium heat until thickened.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface; cut into circles. Place custard filling in the center of each circle and fold over to seal.
- Let risen again for about 30 minutes before baking at 180°C (350°F) for about 12 minutes until golden.
