  • 1/3 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 pound challah bread (sliced)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine dark brown sugar, softened butter, corn syrup, whole milk, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat while stirring until fully combined.
  3. Pour the syrup into the prepared casserole dish evenly.
  4. Arrange sliced challah bread tightly in the dish.
  5. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices evenly.
  7. Cover tightly with foil and refrigerate overnight (at least 8 hours).
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake covered for about 40 minutes.
  9. Mix granulated sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over French toast after removing from oven. Bake uncovered for an additional 40 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm with syrup from the bottom spooned over each slice.
