  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • one 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • one 12-ounce can evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (for topping)
  • 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
  • cinnamon (optional for garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add half the sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, whisk egg yolks with remaining sugar, whole milk, and vanilla until combined. Slowly incorporate flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gently fold in egg whites until no streaks remain.
  5. Pour batter into a greased 9×13 inch pan and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. Combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy whipping cream in a bowl.
  7. Poke holes in the cooled cake with a fork and pour the milk mixture evenly over it. Let soak for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  8. Whip heavy cream with confectioners' sugar until soft peaks form; spread over the soaked cake and garnish with cinnamon if desired.
